Trio — a Daily Word Grouping Puzzle
Trio is the daily word-association puzzle, compressed: six words on the board, and exactly three of them share a hidden link. Maybe they all follow FIRE (works, fly, place), maybe they're all things that can be shuffled, maybe the link is a sound. Your job is to feel the shape of the connection and tap the three that fit.
You get two guesses, and the link itself stays hidden until the end — that's the whole game. Nail it first try and the day is a clean ace. The other three words aren't filler, either: a good Trio board seeds a decoy that almost belongs, and telling the near-miss from the real set is where the minute goes.

1.Scan all six words
Read the board before touching it. The three linked words rarely announce themselves — the fastest solvers look for the connection first (a shared prefix? things in a kitchen? words before 'market'?) and only then pick words to match it.
2.Tap three, lock them in
Select the three you believe in and lock the guess. Wrong combination? You get exactly one more try — and the board doesn't tell you how close the first one was, so rethink the link, not just one word.
3.See the link
Right or wrong, the reveal names the connection and shows the true trio. First-guess solves ace the day; second-guess solves count in yellow; two misses is a miss — and tomorrow's board is a fresh start.
Tips
- Hunt the link, not the words. Three words chosen because they 'feel similar' lose to one hypothesis tested against all six.
- The best decoy usually fits a *simpler* link than the real one. If four words seem to match your idea, your idea is probably the decoy's.
- Say each word with a common partner word — before it and after it. Hidden compound links (FIREworks, FIREfly, FIREplace) fall instantly to this.
- Second guess: change your theory, not one tile. A one-word swap on a wrong link is still a wrong link.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Trio free to play?
- Yes — free in the browser, no app or account needed. It's one of Blip Party's daily puzzles.
- When does a new Trio come out?
- Every day at 00:00 UTC — one board, identical for everyone, with a countdown to the next.
- Is this like NYT Connections?
- Same family, smaller and sharper: one hidden group of three out of six words and two guesses, instead of four groups of four. A round takes about a minute.
- Do wrong guesses end my streak?
- Only using both guesses on wrong trios scores the day as a miss. And every daily game keeps its own streak, so a rough Trio day never touches your Sudoku run.
- Do I need an account?
- No — play as a guest instantly. Claiming a free account later moves your streaks with you to any device.
