Fibber is a lying game. Everyone gets the same prompt with a missing piece, everyone invents a plausible fake answer, and then the real answer is shuffled in among your lies. You vote for the one you think is true — and you score both for finding it and for how many people fell for yours.

That double scoring is what makes it work. A lie nobody believes is worthless, and so is a lie so obviously true that everyone picks it and you never get to be smug about it. The winning play is the answer that sounds exactly as real as the real one.

Keep it secret

Your lie sits on your screen; a peeker can rule it out and back into the truth.

How to play Fibber

  1. The host picks the mode and round count

Classic runs fill-in-the-blank prompts. Hokum swaps the deck for obscure real words where you invent a convincing definition — same bluffing, a completely different flavour of nonsense. Eight rounds is the default; five is a quick game and twelve is a long one.

  2. Everyone writes a lie

The prompt appears on every screen with a blank in it, and you type the fake answer you want the room to believe. Everyone writes at the same time under one shared clock, so there's no waiting around for turns.

  3. The options get shuffled

Every lie in the room is collected and mixed in with the genuine answer, then presented as a single list. You can see your own lie in there, which means you have one option you can safely rule out — and so does everyone else.

  4. Vote for the truth

Pick the option you believe is the real answer. You can't vote for your own lie, so there's no way to farm points from yourself.

  5. The reveal names names

The reveal shows the true answer, who wrote each lie, and exactly who fell for whom. This is the payoff of the round — finding out that your best friend confidently voted for the nonsense you made up thirty seconds earlier.

What Fibber looks like

The Fibber writing stage: the prompt 'The world record for the longest ______ is 47 hours' with a text field to type a convincing lie.
Stage one — everyone writes a lie into the same blank, at the same time.
The Fibber voting stage: four options — handshake, karaoke session, hug, staring contest — one of which is the real answer and the rest are players' lies.
Stage two — your lie is in there somewhere, and so is the truth.

How scoring works

Finding the truth is worth 1,000 points. That's the biggest single payout in the game, so playing purely as a detective is a viable strategy even if nobody ever believes your lies.

Every player you fool is worth 500 points to you. Fool two people in one round and you've out-earned the person who found the truth — which is why writing a believable lie is the higher-ceiling play.

Both halves score in the same round, so a good round is one where you spot the real answer and someone else picks yours. Scores are cumulative across rounds and the highest total at the end wins.

Tips for winning Fibber

  • Write the boring answer. Jokes are fun but they read as jokes — the lie that wins is the one that sounds like it came from the same source as the real answer.
  • Match the format of the prompt. If the real answer is likely to be two words, write two words; length and shape give a lie away faster than content does.
  • Watch who fell for what across rounds. Some players consistently pick the funniest option, and once you know that you can aim at them specifically.
  • Don't over-research. Obscure and technically true reads as invented — and if you accidentally write the real answer you get nothing for it.
  • Keep your screen private while writing. Anyone who sees your lie can eliminate it, which quietly hands them the truth.

Frequently asked questions

How many players do you need for Fibber?

Two to four. With two it's a tight duel; with four there are more lies in the pile and the voting gets genuinely hard.

What's the difference between Classic and Hokum mode?

Classic gives you fill-in-the-blank prompts to complete. Hokum gives you a real but obscure word and asks you to invent its definition. Both use the same bluff-and-vote scoring; the host picks in the lobby.

Is Fibber like Fibbage?

It's the same family of bluffing game — write a fake answer, hide it among the others, score for fooling people. Fibber runs free in the browser with no app or console needed, and adds the Hokum definition mode.

Can I play Fibber without an account?

Yes. Joining a room needs nothing but the 4-letter code, and hosting is free too.

How long is a game of Fibber?

Around 15 minutes at the default eight rounds. It's one of the longer games in the catalogue because writing and voting are separate timed stages.
