There's no penalty for a wrong guess, so the correct strategy is to keep firing for the full round.
Points accumulate across rounds. Finding the obscure answers is what separates a good round from an average one, since almost everyone finds the obvious one.
Tips for winning Poll Star
- Fire the obvious answer immediately, then move on. Everyone gets it, so the time you spend on it is the real cost.
- Think about who was surveyed, not what's correct. Survey boards reward the popular answer, not the accurate one.
- Say categories out loud in your head — food, clothing, documents — to shake loose the deep cuts.
- Keep typing until the buzzer. There's no downside, and the last two slots are worth the most relative to how often they're found.
