Kindred drops a prompt and asks for one word. The scoring rule is unusually cruel: you only score if exactly one other player wrote the same word as you.
Match nobody and you were too weird. Match the whole room and you were too obvious. The game is entirely about threading that needle — finding the answer that one specific friend would also reach for, and nobody else.

How to play Kindred
The host picks the round count
Eight rounds is the default at about 25 seconds each.
A prompt drops
Everyone sees the same prompt. There are no options — you type free text.
Type one word
Your answer is hidden until the reveal, so nobody can watch and copy.
Answers are grouped
The reveal groups everyone by what they wrote, so the pairs and the crowds are both immediately visible.
Only exact pairs score
A pair of two banks. A group of three or more doesn't, and a lone answer doesn't either.

How scoring works
You score only when your answer matches exactly one other player. Any other outcome — alone, or in a group of three or more — banks nothing.
That makes it the one game here where being popular is as bad as being obscure, and it's why the scoreboard tends to stay tight.
Points accumulate across rounds and the highest total wins.
Tips for winning Kindred
- Aim at a specific person, not at the room. The winning play is 'what would Theo write', not 'what's the best answer'.
- Avoid the first word that comes to mind — that's the one everyone writes, and a four-way match scores zero.
- Second-most-obvious is the sweet spot. Obvious enough that someone else lands there, not so obvious that everyone does.
- In a three-player room the maths is brutal: you need exactly one of the other two. Pick the one you know best.
Frequently asked questions
How many players do you need for Kindred?
Three to four. With two players every match would be the whole room, so the rule needs at least three.
Why don't I score when everyone matches me?
Because the game rewards finding a kindred spirit, not finding the obvious answer. A full-room match means you wrote what anyone would have written.
