Free Kahoot Alternative for Friends — Live Trivia, No Accounts
Quiz Hero on Blip Party is a free Kahoot alternative for a group of friends: the same four-option question appears on everyone's phone at once and quicker correct answers score more — with no host account, no class code and nothing to install.

Kahoot is built for a classroom or an all-hands, and it's very good at that. The friction shows up when you want the same thing for six people on a sofa: the host needs an account, the free tier keeps moving, and the whole interface assumes somebody is presenting to a room rather than playing in it.
Quiz Hero is the sofa version. The host picks a category and a question count, everyone joins with a four-letter code, and the host plays too — there's no presenter standing outside the game unless they choose to be. Scoring works the way you'd expect: right answers bank points, and answering faster banks more of them.
The trade is authoring. Kahoot's real power is that you can write your own quiz, and plenty of people search for an alternative precisely because they want to make one. Blip Party has a large built-in question bank across a lot of categories, but you cannot yet write your own questions. If that's the requirement, Kahoot or Quizizz remains the right tool.
Free, no app and no sign-up to join — players hop in with a 4-letter code on their own phone.
Trivia, and the games for people who don't like trivia
Quiz Hero
Trivia · 1–8 players · ~10 minThe direct match. Four options, one right answer, the same question on every screen, and speed as the tiebreak. Works from one player up to eight.
Bogus
Fakes · 2–8 players · ~6 minTrivia without needing to know anything. Six claims on a theme, some of them invented — tap the fakes. Catching one pays, accusing a real fact costs you.
All In
Wager · 2–8 players · ~6 minFor a group with one person who knows everything. A true-or-false claim drops and you stake Safe, Bold or All In on it, so confidence is scored as well as knowledge and the leader can be caught in a single round.
Hedge
Wager · 2–8 players · ~7 minThe same idea, spread out. Ten chips across four options, placed by how sure you are — everyone can score something, which keeps the person who knows least still playing at question eight.
Ballpark
Estimate · 1–8 players · ~8 minQuestions nobody could know the answer to. One impossible number per round, everyone guesses, closest takes it — no trivia knowledge required, just instinct.
Poll Star
Survey · 1–8 players · ~8 minFamily Fortunes rather than a quiz. Six ranked answers from a real poll are hidden on the board and you race to name as many as you can.
Blip Party vs Kahoot
| Kahoot! | Blip Party | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | A free tier for personal use, with paid plans for schools and business. | Free. |
| Host account | Required — the host signs in to create and run a kahoot. | None. Hosts and players both play as guests. |
| Custom questions | Yes, and it's the main reason to choose it. Write your own, or use millions of public sets. | No. Built-in question bank only. |
| Group size | Built to scale — hundreds of participants on the paid tiers. | Up to 8. This is a game-night tool, not a lecture-hall one. |
| The host | Presents. The quiz runs on a shared screen and the host drives it. | Plays, by default — or hands over their seat and runs the room on a TV if they'd rather present. |
| Afterwards | The quiz ends and that's the session. | The same room switches to any of the other 59 games without rejoining. |
Frequently asked questions
Can I write my own questions?
Not yet. Quiz Hero draws on a built-in bank you pick categories from. If authoring your own quiz is the point, Kahoot and Quizizz both do that and this doesn't.
Do players need the app or an account?
No. They open blipparty.com, type the 4-letter room code and play. The host doesn't need an account either.
How many people can join?
Up to 8, and Quiz Hero works solo too — it scores itself, so one person can play a round alone.
Is there a version for a classroom?
No. Rooms cap at 8 and there's no roster, no reporting and no teacher view, so this isn't a Kahoot replacement for teaching — it's one for a group of friends.
Is there a daily quiz?
Yes — Quiz Five is one of the nine free daily puzzles: five questions, same for everyone, new every midnight UTC, and playable on your own.
Free, no app and no sign-up to join — players hop in with a 4-letter code on their own phone.
