Punchline is the purest comedy game here: a prompt, your funniest answer, and a blind vote. No trivia, no bluffing, no mechanics to hide behind.

Your own answer is greyed out when you vote, so you can't back yourself. What's left is a straight contest of who made the room laugh most, which is exactly as brutal and as fun as it sounds.

Keep it secret

Your joke is greyed out on your own vote screen — don't let a neighbour spot it.

How to play Punchline

  1. The host picks the round count

Six rounds is the default; four is a quick game and eight is a full session.

  2. A prompt drops

Everyone gets the same setup, at the same time.

  3. Write your funniest answer

One answer, one clock, everyone writing at once.

  4. Vote blind

All the answers come back anonymised. Yours is greyed out — no self-voting.

  5. The reveal names the author

The winning answer is crowned and everyone finds out who wrote it.

What Punchline looks like

A Punchline vote showing three player-written answers to a prompt about job interviews.
Everyone writes, then the room votes blind. Your own answer is greyed out.

How scoring works

Each vote your answer collects banks points, so the score is a direct measure of how funny the room found you.

You can't vote for yourself, which keeps the scoreboard honest in small rooms.

Points accumulate and the highest total wins. Consistency beats one huge round — an answer that pulls a vote every time outscores one that sweeps once.

Tips for winning Punchline

  • Answer the prompt. Non-sequiturs get a laugh in conversation but lose votes to something that actually lands on the setup.
  • Specific beats general, always. A named, concrete detail is funnier than a category.
  • Shorter is better. People vote fast, and a long answer loses to one that lands on first read.
  • Know your room. The joke that kills with your friends is not the joke that kills with your colleagues.

Frequently asked questions

How many players do you need for Punchline?

Three to four. Three is the minimum for a vote to mean anything.

Is this like Cards Against Humanity or Quiplash?

It's the write-your-own-answer family — closest to Quiplash, since you type an answer rather than playing a card, and the room votes blind.

Can I vote for my own answer?

No, it's greyed out on your screen.

Is it free?

Yes, free to play and free to host, and joining needs only the room code.
