We're retiring Blip Daily
Blip Daily is gone. The eight solo puzzles stopped today, and old links to them now take you to the homepage.
Why we stopped
We launched Blip Daily on 26 August. Blip Party always needs other people, and we wanted the site to have something for a quiet morning when nobody's around to play with.
Almost nobody played it. Two months in, the dailies still hadn't found a regular crowd, while the party games get played every day. That told us what Blip Party is for.
The dailies also cost more to keep than they looked. Each one needed a new puzzle every day, so its puzzle list had to be topped up week after week. They had their own pages, their own streaks and their own code. Every change to the site had to be checked against them too. That was time not spent on the games you play together.
They also split the site in two. The homepage, the top bar and the footer all had to explain a solo product next to the party games. Now they only have one thing to explain.
What happens to your streaks
They're gone, along with past results and Daily Duel links. If you had a streak going, we're sorry to end it.
The three daily achievements, Daily Habit, Calendar Crusher and Morning Ritual, are gone from every account as well. Nobody could earn them any more, so keeping them would have left three locked badges on every profile forever. Your party-game stats, wins and other achievements haven't changed.
Where the puzzles went
Most of the dailies were solo versions of party games, and those games are all still here.
- Quiz Five was a short round of Quiz Hero.
- Ladder was Rungs, played alone.
- Mini used the crosswords from Gridlock.
- Sudoku, Trio, Rebus and Ballpark each have a party game with the same name.
- If you liked Keystone, try Word Rush. Everyone gets the same letters, and longer words pay more.
You don't need a group for most of them. Quiz Hero, Rungs, Sudoku, Trio, Rebus, Ballpark and Word Rush all start with just you in the room. For any other game, press Add a bot and a Blip, our computer player, takes a seat. You can add up to seven.
What we're doing instead
We're spending all of our time on games you play together. Most of that work comes from you. Our last update, fixing frozen answers, missing words and slow Blips, came straight from reports sent through the Help button.
If you miss the dailies, tell us. Use the Help button in any room, or the rating at the end of a game. We read all of it.
