Low High is a team game about reading your friends. Everyone gets a secret number from 1 to 10, and the whole room gets the same theme with a scale, like “a superpower, from useless to world-changing”. You write one answer that fits your number. A 2 might be “talking to pigeons”. A 9 might be “rewinding time”.

Then all the answers go on one shared board, without the numbers, and the room has to put them in order from low to high. You can talk about it as much as you like, but nobody can say their number. If you've played ito or Top Ten, it's the same idea, and it runs in the browser, so nobody has to install anything.

Co-opBetter with voice

One team, one score: the whole room wins together, and the finale celebrates what you pulled off as a group — no podium, no loser.

The fun is arguing about the line, so a call is easiest. A group chat works too, as long as nobody types their number.

How to play Low High

  1. The host picks the number of rounds

Six rounds is the default. The room starts with three lives, or four with six or more players, and the game ends early if they run out.

  2. You get a secret number

Each round, everyone is dealt a different number from 1 to 10. It shows on your own screen only.

  3. A theme comes up

Every theme has a low end and a high end, for example “a place for a first date, from worst to best” or “an animal you could beat in a fight, from easy to impossible”.

  4. Write something that fits your number

A low number wants a weak answer, a high number a strong one. Pick something the others will place where you mean it.

  5. Sort the board together

All the answers show up on one shared board. Anyone can move any card: tap it, then tap where it should go. Everyone sees the moves as they happen.

  6. Lock in when you're happy

When everyone has locked in, the cards flip over and show their numbers. If someone moves a card after you locked in, you lock in again. If the clock runs out first, the board is scored as it stands.

What Low High looks like

The Low High write screen: your secret number 7 on a scale from useless to world-changing, and a box for your superpower.
You get a secret number and write something that fits it.
The Low High board: four superpowers in a column from useless at the top to world-changing at the bottom, with your own card marked with your number.
The room sorts every answer on one shared board.
The Low High reveal: each answer shows its number, one card is marked out of place and the room has two of three lives left.
The numbers flip over. Every card out of place costs a life.

How scoring works

The cards that form the longest run in the right order are safe. Every other card costs the room one life.

So one card in the wrong place costs one life, however far off it was, and two cards swapped with each other cost one life, not two.

A perfect line wins a life back, up to the number you started with.

The room wins together if it gets through the last round with at least one life left. If the lives run out, the game ends there.

The room also earns team points for every card in the run, with a bonus for a perfect line, so you can try to beat your own score next time.

Tips for winning Low High

  • Think about how your friends see the scale, not just how you see it. Your 7 and their 7 might be very different things.
  • Describe your own answer when you're sorting. “Mine is a bit better than a coffee shop” tells people a lot without saying a number.
  • Go for answers that are easy to compare. Very strange answers are funny, but they're hard to place.
  • Low and high numbers are easier to place than ones in the middle. If you have a 5 or a 6, aim for something everyone would call average.

Frequently asked questions

How many players do you need for Low High?

Two to eight. Two works as a quick warm-up, but it gets better with more people, because there are more cards to argue about.

Is Low High the same as ito?

It's built on the same idea: secret numbers, a shared scale and putting answers in order as a team. Low High uses a 1 to 10 range, its own set of 150 themes, and lives instead of a deck of rounds.

Can we say our numbers?

No, that's the one rule. You can talk about your answer, compare it to other answers and argue as much as you want. Just don't say or type the number.

What happens if someone doesn't write in time?

They still get a card on the board, with an answer picked for them that fits their number. It's marked on the reveal so everyone knows they didn't write it.

Can I play with Blips?

Yes. Blips are the site's bot players and they can fill seats. They write a simple answer for their number, move their own card once, and agree with the room. They make up the numbers, they won't win the game for you.

Do we need to be on a call?

It's easiest on a call or in the same room, because the fun is talking about the order. A group chat works too.

How long does a game take?

About 10 minutes at the default six rounds, less if the lives run out.

Is it free?

Yes. It's free to play and free to host, and you don't need an account to join a room.
