Flashback shows you a board of little pictures for a few seconds and then takes it away. Only after it's gone do you get the question about what was on it.
That order is the whole design. You can't study for the question because you don't know what it'll be, so the game tests what you actually noticed rather than what you tried to memorise.

The host picks the round count
Eight rounds is the default at about 18 seconds each, making it one of the snappier games here.

A grid of pixel icons appears for a few seconds. There's no question yet — just look.
The board vanishes
Everything disappears. No peeking, no going back.
Now you get the question
'How many stars were there?' 'What was in the corner?' You answer from memory alone.

The reveal shows the board again with the answer, so you can see exactly what you missed.

Correct answers bank points. Because everyone saw the same board for the same length of time, this is one of the fairest games in the catalogue — there's no knowledge advantage at all.
There's no penalty for a wrong answer, so always commit to your best guess.
Points accumulate across rounds and the highest total wins.
Tips for winning Flashback
- Scan the whole board rather than studying one corner. The questions are as likely to be about the layout as about any single item.
- Count the thing that appears most. 'How many of X' is the most common question shape, and the most repeated icon is the usual subject.
- Note the odd one out. If something appears exactly once, it's memorable and often asked about.
- Don't try to memorise positions and quantities at the same time — pick one and commit.
