Couplet gives the whole room the same opening line and asks for the second. It has to rhyme, it has to scan, and above all it has to land.
Then the closing lines come back anonymised under the seed line and everyone votes. The reveal reads the winning pair out as a finished two-line poem, which is consistently funnier than either line was on its own.
Your line comes back as an anonymous vote option — don't let a neighbour spot which one is yours.

How to play Couplet
The host picks the round count
Six rounds is the default; four is quick and eight is a full session.
A first line drops
Everyone gets the same seed line — something like “My cat just learned to drive my car,”.
Write the closing line
Finish the rhyme. Everyone writes at the same time under a shared clock, so there's no waiting on turns.
Vote blind
The closing lines come back anonymous under the seed. You can see your own but you can't vote for it.
The reveal reads it out
The seed and the crowned line are shown together as a finished couplet, then the next seed drops.
What Couplet looks like

How scoring works
Each vote your line collects banks points, so the score is purely how funny the room found you.
You can't vote for your own line, so there's no way to score off yourself.
Points accumulate across rounds and the highest total wins — a line that pulls one vote every round beats one that sweeps once.
Tips for winning Couplet
- Get the rhyme right first, then make it funny. A line that doesn't rhyme reads as a mistake no matter how good the joke is.
- Match the rhythm of the seed line. A closing line with the wrong number of beats stumbles when it's read out.
- Land the joke on the final word. It's the rhyme AND the punchline, so make it carry both.
- Avoid the obvious rhyme. Everyone else found it too, and identical ideas split the vote.
