How to play Backronym
The host picks the round count
Six rounds is the default. Four is a quick warm-up and eight is a full session.
An acronym and a theme drop
Everyone gets the same letters and the same theme nudge — the theme is what stops every round being the same joke.
Write your phrase
Type a phrase whose words start with those letters, in order. Everyone writes at once under a shared clock, so nobody is waiting on turns.
Vote for the funniest
All the phrases come back anonymised. You can see your own but you can't vote for it.
The reveal names the author
The winning backronym is crowned and everyone finds out who wrote what — including whoever wrote the one nobody voted for.

Votes are the entire score: each vote your phrase collects is worth points, so the game is decided purely by how funny the room found you.
You can't vote for your own entry, so there's no way to farm points from yourself.
Points accumulate over the rounds, and the highest total wins. Consistency beats one spectacular round — a phrase that gets one vote every round outscores one that sweeps once and flops four times.

- Commit to the theme. Phrases that ignore the theme read as generic, and generic never wins a vote.
- Short beats clever. A three-word phrase that lands instantly beats a long one people are still parsing when they vote.
- Make the last word the punchline. The letters are read in order, so the joke should arrive at the end.
- Specific nouns are funnier than abstract ones. 'Frog' wins votes that 'feelings' never will.
